The Montana/Brady debate revisited.

Post by PapaShogun »

Just to say first and foremost I appreciate both players and what they've accomplished. With this victory I do think they are on the same level for greatest quarterback of all time when you combine play and accomplishments. There are tons of factors and all in all, it depends how you look at it. But these two definitely stand alone together to me. If Brady wins another one, he'll surpass Joe.

I didn't even know there was a Montana-Brady debate, and I live in New England.

I think that it's hard to say who is the GOAT. There have been multiple rule changes across eras, and players play better in one system than they do in another.

However, if I had to choose between them, I would pick Montana. All Brady has done has rode a bunch of lucky breaks, a weak division, and a superior coach to six Super Bowls and four World Championships.

One of the morons on Fox News' "The Five" talked about how Brady will ultimately be judged to be the best--because "he's never suffered a serious injury." I guess the torn ACL and MCL he had in 2008 wasn't that bad.

Yeah, Brady's just been along for the ride. You kill me.

It could be six championships if not for two "unlucky" breaks. In truth, luck has nothing to do with any of the Patriots' SB results. It's guys making plays.

Brady - and Manning - belong on Mt. Rushmore with Montana, Unitas, Graham and Baugh...period.

I'll echo a discussion happening on the Football Perspective website: Brady's now the GOAT (or 2ndGOAT) because Malcolm Butler makes an interception? I guess it makes sense, in the world where Phil Simms became a winner and Jim Kelly became a loser while both of them were on the sidelines watching a kicker, or where Lynn Swann is a Hall of Fame receiver because he played on a team with a crushingly dominant defense.

This. Why isn't Kurt Warner seen as one of the greatest SB QB's of all time? B/c Viniateri made a kick? Because Holmes made maybe the greatest catch in SB history?
