NFL Throwback channel ranking every NFL team by QB history

Pretty long production, but interesting I think if one has the time. I mostly agree with the rankings.

Good idea, though unsurprisingly teams with a couple of HOFers will be favored over teams with more consistent play but less peak talent. I would have put the Seahawks higher, they've often had above average QBs. Bears need to be dead last.

That was my thought as well when I first stumbled upon the video. Even with Sid Luckman's career, the Bears should be at the bottom in my mind. I'd gladly take Brunell/Garrard/Lawrence has trumped pretty much anything the Bears have output since Luckman suited up other than Cutler.

Thats what I commented on the PFJ site ... Despite having nearly 9000 yards more passing than Luckman, Cutler has only thrown 17 more TDs as the all-time Bears leader. Jimmy Mac is third with 67 ... Other than Luckman and McMahon's impressive winning percentage when he did play, almost nothing from Bears QBs historically ... Even after Billy Wade managed a championship with that great defense in 1963, he was only 2-10 as a starter the next three seasons ...

Without having seen the show I'd put the Colts on top, although they have good competition from the likes of Green Bay and San Francisco. Contrary to what others believe I'd put that other team that used to be based in Chicago - the Cardinals - dead last. "Da Bears" at least have H.o.F.er Sid Luckman. Who's the best QB in Cardinals history? Carson Palmer? Lamar McHan? Jim Hart? Neil Lomax? Kurt Warner? Charley Johnson? Paul Christman? No clear cut winner, there, as far as I can tell (though, if pressed, I'd probably go with Kurt Warner given that he got the Cardinals to a S.B.).

Good argument racepug but how do you rank the Cardinals worse than the Bears? The Bears gave up on Bobby Layne and George Blanda! Theyre defense got them to a SB with Rex Grossman! Haha ... not exactly a QB factory ...

Bears QB TD passes:
1940-1959 358 (actually the best over that time period, though many teams didn't play the entire time period, only 9 teams. Rams second at 336)
1960-2022 1,069 (worst over this time period for the 22 teams that existed 1960-2022. Next worst is Browns, but they missed a few years. Next worst that played every year is Jets at 1,199, difference of 130.)

Cardinals QB TD passes:
1940-1959 257 (eighth out of nine that played every year, only Steelers are worse)
1960-2022 1,202 (not that great, other than the Bears only better than Jets and Lions, and Browns if you count them. So 18 of 22.)

But look at the totals. Despite the big advantage Luckman and co. gave the Bears, first overall from 1940-1959, they've given ALL of it away. Dead last now from 1940-2022.

Cardinals QBs with more than 70 TD passes career: Jim Hart 209, Neil Lomax 136, Charley Johnson 108, Carson Palmer 105, Kurt Warner 100, Jake Plummer 90, Kyler Murray 84.

Bears QBs with more than 70 TD passes career: Jay Cutler 154, Sid Luckman 137.

I'm not saying the Cards QBs have been great. They haven't been in any era. But they've had people that could hold the position. The Bears had Cutler and that's it for 73 years now. They're the worst.

I guess I'm not understanding the exercise here. Are you just looking at one 'representative' QB in a franchises' history, or are we looking at the year-by-year QBs? The Cardinals clearly have had superior QBs pretty much every season from the early-1960's to the present. I never really had to put that much thought into who the best QB in Cardinals history is...Jim Hart retired as the 3rd leading passer in NFL history. But pretty much all of the "question mark" guys you listed (other than Lamar McHan...good one) were better than any post-Luckman Bears QB. When Charley Johnson returned from the military, there was a QB controversy because Jim Hart had established himself as the starter. Imagine that....the Cardinals had a QB controversy, and both QBs would have been the 2nd best QB in Bears history.
