Interesting Standlee played for the Bears in '41 - he was a 49er/AAFC in my head, but in actuality looks like he missed several seasons due to military service - didn't play again until '46.
The following Redskins missed the entire 1942 season because of military service: Steve Andrake, Jim Barber, Keith Birlem, Frank Clair, Ken Dow, Frank Filchock, Lee Gentry, Bob Hoffman, Jime Meade, Wayne Milner, Boyd Morgan, Mickey Parks, Bo Russell, and Sandy Sanford.

Yes, according to a Luckman interview with NFL Films, the coaches came to him before the fame and said "Sid, this is the championship game; anything goes." So Luckman, who had only returned 4 punts all season, was back returning punts. He was running a punt back when Baugh came up to try and tackle him. Luckman either kicked or kneed Baugh in the head, and Slinging Sammy was knocked out. Baugh left the game with a concussion. He returned in the 3rd quarter to throw a pair of touchdowns passes, but the Bears already had established a 20 point lead.
