The Washington Redskins came into Veterans Stadium with a 6-1 record to play the Eagles, at 3-4. This game was as even as it gets with each play seemingly important. The variable in the Eagles favor was the running of Randall Cunningham. He carried the ball seven times for 80 yards. The Eagles came from a 21 to 7 deficit in the second quarter and played much better thereafter.
Cunningham threw three touchdown passes. Two went to Mike Quick. The winning play was a 40 yard completion to Greg Garrity with less a minute to play. Philadelphia defeated the Redskins 31 to 27. Washington went on to win the Super Bowl defeating the Denver Broncos 42 to 10.
