Dallas Cowboys at Eagles 2010

Post by LeonardRachiele »

Philadelphia was 10-5 coming into this game and Dallas 5-10.

It was unusual feeling playing the Dallas Cowboys in a throwaway game on the final weekend of 2010.  In the past,  a  late season game with Dallas had allot riding on it.  Today the Eagles already had the home field  for the Wild Card game locked up.   Thanks to a 17 to 12 loss with Washington two months earlier,  today's game meant nothing.   Andy Reid was correct in using the second string;  but this was Dallas and the loss still hurt.  The Cowboys had five sacks for 39 yards, and three pass interceptions, and a fumble recovery to win this game.

The Eagles took  a 7 to 0 lead in the first quarter when Kevin Kolb capped a drive with a short touchdown pass to Chad Hall.  Neither side did much after that though Philadelphia was controlling the clock.   Late in the second period the Eagles had the ball deep in their own territory.  Kolb, getting blitzed, fumbled and Eagle nemesis DeMarcus Ware picked it up and ran 16 yards for the touchdown.   The score was tied at seven at halftime and third quarter was scoreless.

The Eagles kicked field goal for a 10 to 7 lead in the fourth period.  After that, Kolb found Chad Hall on a 50 yard completion to the Dallas eight.   Then came three failures.  Ackers kicked a 22 yard field goal for a 13 to 7  count.  Red Zone problems surfaced again.  Following a pass interception,  Dallas moved 39 yards for a touchdown.  Stephen McGee threw a five yard touchdown pass to Jason Whitten.  The Cowboys won 14 to 13.

Since this game was meaningless, the Eagles viewed it with some positive tilt.  Their defense held Dallas without a score until very late in the game.  Even so, a win would have been great against the Cowboys.  Turnovers, sacks, and a missed Red Zone opportunity cost them the game.
