I remember feeling bad for Blanda after getting released by the Raiders in 1976. It's hard to imagine him kicking as poorly as Fred Steinfort and Errol Mann who were a combined 8/19 on field goals and 42/46 on extra points that season. I suspect Blanda's fate was sealed after missing two extra points and a 27 yard field goal attempt in a 27-26 loss to the Oilers late in 1975.

Actually, if you look at the distances, it's about the same:

0-29: 1975 Blanda 9-10, 1976 Steinfort/Mann 2-3
30-39: 1975 Blanda 4-6, 1976 Steinfort/Mann 4-7
40-49: 1975 Blanda 0-5, 1976 Steinfort/Mann 2-9

Going by averages, 1976 Blanda goes 3-3, 5-7, 0-9 for the same 8-19 results. Blanda was only QB as a novelty at that point, hadn't kicked off for years, and had decreasing range on FGs.

That's interesting Jay Z, nice work. If I remember correctly, Mann bounced back in 1977 and led the NFL in scoring.
