Dallas finished 12-4 in 1983 and on the surface it looks like a great team. Looking further reveals that the Dallas Cowboys were 12-2 and virtually collapsed for the last two games of the regular season and in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Game 15 Washington Redskins at home lost 31 to 10. DC was 14-2.
Game 16 at San Francisco lost in a route 42 to 17. The 49ers were 10-6
Wild Card Los Angeles at home lost 24 to 17. The Rams were an ordinary 9-7 team.
During the season, Danny White completed 334 passes for a 62.7% completion rate and 29 touchdowns. Here are the highlights:
Game 1 at Washington, Dallas won 31 to 30.
Danny White completed only nine passes but three went for touchdowns and 193 yards.
Game 2 at St Louis, Dallas won 34 to 17.
White went 19 for 29 for 234 yards and a touchdown.
Game 3 New York Giants at home, Dallas won 28 to 13.
Danny went 24 of 32 for 238 yards and two touchdowns.
Game 6 Tampa Bay at home, Dallas won 37 t0 21.
White completed 29 of 44 passes for 377 yards and two touchdowns.
Game 7 Philadelphia at home, Dallas won 37 to 7.
White completed 26 of 40 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns.
Game 9 at New York Giants, Dallas won 38 to 20.
White was 16 for 34 for 310 yards and five touchdowns.
Game 10 at Philadelphia, Dallas won 27 to 20.
Great Accuracy. DW was 21 of 24 for 248 yards and two touchdowns.
Game 14 Seattle at home
A great day again. White was 23 of 30 for 293 yards and three touchdowns.

White lost some confidence at the end of the 83 season but the team just peaked too soon before the Redskin game, which was one of Theismann's best ever games. The Cowboy secondary was opportunistic but slow and it caught up with them by the end of the season but the team depth wasnt the best, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines since Gil Brandt wasnt drafting nearly as well as he had during the 70s.
