Here is an article about their breakup: https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/2020/0 ... t-history/
In that article, it is revealed that Jerry was thinking about getting rid of Jimmy as early as 1991.
If that is true, it makes me wonder: Does Jimmy Johnson leave a year earlier and end up in Jacksonville if the Cowboys don't beat the 49ers in the 1992 NFC Title Game?

Re: Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson
I doubt he would have left Dallas until he had a chance to really write his name into the history books with them. He knew how loaded that team was and he would have known his best chance to win a Super Bowl (or multiple Super Bowls) would have been with them. I also think that if Dallas doesn't win the Super Bowl in the '93 season Johnson would have still been the coach there in '94.
Looking back on that whole deal it makes you realize how huge of egos both those two had. It was definitely a situation where they were better together than they were without one another.
