Butch Johnson in Super Bowl XII

Hey Guys:

I know that Butch Johnson of the Cowboys made a diving touchdown catch in Super Bowl XII. After the game, it was revealed that he suffered a broken thumb in the game. Can anyone confirm if he broke his thumb before his touchdown catch, during his touchdown catch, or after his touchdown catch? I saw an end zone photo of his catch where it appears that he's wearing a wrapping around his right hand and thumb. Your help is much appreciated!

Johnson broke his right thumb in the second quarter of the super bowl while blocking.

It also clarifies that Johnson's cach was valid within the rules back then. Although I'm a Cowboys fan and that was my first Super Bowl I saw, I don't think that Johnson had the ball long enough in his hands when he rolled in the endzone.
