I'd vote for Mutryn for the HOVG. He's one of those guys who lost time to the service in WWII, then reeled off several excellent seasons in the AAFC before prematurely hanging it up. Lots of short careers back then. From what I understand, after being assigned to the Eagles when the Colts collapsed after the 1950 season, "the Cleveland Butcher Boy" announced he was either going to play for his hometown Browns in 1951 or nobody. He had a kid with another one on the way, so he retired at age 30 to run his butcher shop full-time. Imagine a pro player doing that today.
