Is this being brought on by Tom Brady announcing that he's coming back? I've read that those two weren't getting along particularly well this last season.
Arians retiring?

Re: Arians retiring?
Brady must have known Arians was retiring but I still believe he will be traded to SF later in the year. The Bucs may take Jimmy G or draft a new QB, though Mayfield may be available.

Re: Arians retiring?
The insiders are saying Brady forced Arians ouster saying he'd come back to play this year (the last year of his 3-year contract) if the coach was gone. Prior to that there was a behind-the-scenes power play where Brady threatened to retire if the Bucs didn't let him go and the Bucs called his bluff leaking his "retirement" to the press to put him in a bind. Now the rumors are he will be playing for Miami next season with 10% ownership in the team. All of this will make for a fascinating read when it all comes out.

Why not just force a trade to Miami now ? Ross needs all the positive press he can get. However with Mary Jo White leading the investigation whether Ross tried to pay-to-tank games, the NFL will successfully sweep it under the rug. Didnt Grier's father Bobby, draft Brady for the Patriots ?

Just like with everything else. And, he did draft Brady for the Pats before he was shown the door by Belichick.Brian wolf wrote:Why not just force a trade to Miami now ? Bucs are one of my three favorite teams and I follow them somewhat closely. Here is my impression of the situation after several months of speculation on the Brady-Arians relationship.
When the Bucs hired Arians they had not made the playoffs for 12 years. Arians had all the leverage as they were trying to coax him out of retirement. Thus there was an arrangement where Arians didn't call the plays or do the gameplan but could make whatever changes he liked. Given Arians health issues this was quite reasonable. Fast forward a year and Brady comes in and as time passes finds he doesn't like this arrangement. The expectations and dynamics of the team had changed and the Bucs now have 2 coordinators(who to be fair are there because of Arians) who can do the job full time. Continuing that setup no longer made sense and BA had been contemplating retirement anyway.
I think the current Bucs regime including Brady like Arians and that is why he is going to be staying in the organization. I see this less as a power struggle and more of an reorganization that makes sense for everyone involved. Bowles and this staff were still picked by Arians and his finerprints are still on the Bucs and will continue to be. I do not think Brady rejected Bruce Arians so much as the division of labor that BA felt he needed. When you hear him and Licht talk about the team it seems they were mostly on the same page in terms of roster construction and it makes sense that Licht would want to keep him in the front office. If they didn't want Arians there he would have just retired from football altogether.
Anyhow this is my impression of the situation. Obviously there's a lot of smoke and mirrors. But when BA swears up and down the Brady-Arians split is made up I mostly believe him. Him saying he almost retired after the Super Bowl but wanted to run it back this year makes perfect sense.
