Evan McPherson: greatest postseason ever by a K?

Post by Bryan »

And he still has the Super Bowl to play! The guy has been 4/4 in FGs each postseason game, with 2 GWs and 3 52+ yarders. I am impressed that the Cincy coach is so confident in McPherson that he's always willing to try long FGs. Is McPherson's postseason better than Adam Vinatieri's 2001 performance (Snow Bowl GW, SB GW)?

He is a very good kicker IMO has the potential to be something special. I'm not sure if it's the best postseason ever by a kicker but it'd have to be up there. If they were to win he'd also be following in Tuckers footsteps as the rookie kicker with the ring. If they lose Vinatieri also lost in the superbowl as a rookie. Either way his postseason has been great. The Bengals are really getting the most out of the rookies I was very surprised they beat the Chiefs.

Vinatieri holds the record for most FGs in a post season with 14. That was with the 2006 Colts. He also has the record for most overall points in a postseason with 49 from the same year. 1997 Terrell Davis is one behind there with 48.

I would consider McPherson greater than Vinatieri 2006, due to closer games. The only close game for the Colts was 38-34 over Patriots, and Vinatieri did have 3 FGs there, but two were in the first half when the Pats built a 21-6 lead. So he was not a big part of that. He did have 5 FG in a 15-6 win over Baltimore, the 4th and last (to date) playoff game with no touchdowns scored.

Gostkowski for NE in 2006 also had a great rookie postseason ...
