Rookie QBs: what's the problem?

Update on the situation: Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, and Mills remain some of the worst starting QBs in the league stretching across the last several years, while Lance has yet to get an extended look, and Jones is locked in a dead heat with Chase for OROY with the Pats looking like a top 3 team in the NFL, but Jones himself still isn't doing much more than playing smart, conservative, complementary football, which could not have been exaggerated to a more comical extent than that Buffalo game. Of the aforementioned Four Horsemen of the Rookie-QBpocalypse, Mills has actually been the least dreadful, somehow; the higher-drafted trio continue to hold TD-INT ratios and passer ratings well below the Mendoza line, which has been a nearly nonexistent sight among passers with enough attempts to qualify over the past few years. Compare last year, the bottom 9 qualifiers averaged about 1:1 TD-INT and a high-70s PR, but no one too egregiously below these marks, and in 2019, no one had underwater TD-INT or a rating below 78. Around the league, the early-season passing boom cooled off dramatically in November, one of the weirdest months I've ever experienced as an NFL watcher, and the efforts of all the spectacular young QBs that have come into the league over the past five years, supplying highlight reels worth of epic plays on the weekly, have once again come down to statue Tom Brady running away with his fourth MVP at age 44. In a season marked by parity to an often bizarre degree even for a league renowned for exactly that, quarterback production has taken a clear leaguewide drop-off from its high point last year and early this one, and while it is noticeable at the top of the standings, no more clearly is it evidenced than at the bottom, which continues to be dominated by highly-regarded rookie passers. With Meyer mercifully departed, we'll see if Lawrence can see a step forward in the home stretch; Fields has at least made measurable strides since the OP, although he remains lackluster; and the Jets' and Texans' seasons are just futile at this point.
