Am I correct that because Sam Mills last season as a player was 1997 he is eligible for nomination to the Hall of the Very Good in 2022? I think it's 25 years?

A very late response to this but I hope it is still useful...
....a player has to have been out of football for 25 seasons to be eligible for the HOVG in 2022 which in this case means 1997-2021 inclusive. Anyone who last played in the 1996 season or earlier is eligible.
So, one has to be out of the game for 25 years to be eligible for the HoVG.
One does not become eligible in their 25th year.

I want to know if Boomer Esiason, Steve Tasker and Herschel Walker, who retired after the 1997 season, are eligible for this year HOVG nominations, or until 2023.
