Disney shutting down ESPN Classic

Did y'all know Disney is shutting down ESPN Classic? I didn't even know ESPN Classic was still around, and now that I do, it's too late!

Yeah I didn't even know ESPN Classic was still around either. They must not be included in very many cable packages anylonger. In anycase really no point in having the channel around when people can simply hop on youtube and I find almost anything they want.

ESPN Classic has become pretty useless over the years, but I remember that when its predecessor, Classic Sports Network, was introduced in 1995, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. 'This Week in Pro Football,' vintage team yearbook programs, original telecasts of MLB/NBA games....my VCR was working overtime in those days.

Yeah, Classic Sports Network was awesome. My provider dropped ESPN Classic a couple years ago. It was basically replaying the same basketball and football games from college over and over and over.

I was a big fan of Classic Sports Network and ESPN Classic as well, recording alot of programming. I remember watching the Joe Namath show on there and how hurt and frustrated Namath and Coach Weeb Ewbank was after losing to the Chiefs in the 1969 AFL Playoff game. They wanted to defend their world championship badly and it was rare to see that vulnerable side of Namath after seeing his humorous, cool side on previous episodes. What hurt ESPN Classic like other ESPN stations was that annoying crawl/scroll at the bottom of the screen of updated scores and news that distracted viewers and of course the network stopping showing NFL films and specials as former older, players rightfully started demanding royalties and income from their images and likenesses being shown while ESPN earned advertising revenue ...
