Penalty against Ravens
Penalty against Ravens
Even I - someone who was pulling for the Chiefs this last Sunday - thought the penalty that erased BAL's successful 2-point attempt in the 4th quarter was bogus. Even the officiating expert that Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels called upon (I forget which one it was at the moment) thought the call ("Ineligible receiver downfield") was "not within the spirit of the rule." Personally, I don't understand why such a rule even exists. I mean, if a team wants to send a bunch of offensive linemen out on pass routes on a given play and risk having its quarterback get clobbered as a result, who's the league to stop them from doing it?
Re: Penalty against Ravens
I think it is done to help defenses. Otherwise, why not just have a quarterback and then 10 running backs, receivers, and tight ends on the field?
