Pearson was not only a great possession receiver but fearless over the middle, which is why George Allen thought he was a great player and always tried to double cover him with his Redskins. The only knock is that Pearson's TDs were low but he also opened things up for Hill, Johnson, DuPree and Richards and was a willing blocker as well. Imagine his numbers if Staubach could have played three more years because he didnt have the same chemistry with Danny White, who preferred Tony Hill or Cosbie ...

That leap, catch, toe dance and forceout call against the Vikings on 4th and 17 was the greatest catch I have ever seen ... though Swann's TD snare of Bradshaw's bullet in the endzone to kill Dallas in the 78/79 SB game was also incredible.

Maybe I was too harsh on Pearson. I just think that Swann was on a different level than Pearson from an ability standpoint. He was IMO clearly a better WR than Pearson, even if its not reflected in the numbers.

If I had to choose between those pairs, I would probably go with Swan and Stallworth, although I rank Rice as the best WR of them all.

However, I do not rank either pair as the best WR duo of all time. I give the nod for that to Elroy Hirsch and Tom Fears of the Rams in the 1950s.

I always loved both Swann and Pearson. Both great at what they added to their teams.

Not trying to be a trivia wise a$$ here - I'm actually terrible at trivia, but I didn't want one of the early pro players to be overlooked. Bobby "Rube" Marshall received post season honors as an End at the age of 40 in 1920 for the Rock Island Independents.

Prescient thread however, since Pearson and Branch have made the HOF and Sharpe will soon. Looking back at Swann's career, it's amazing how well he played in big games, for division, wild card, conference or SB, he delivered. I feel had he stayed healthy his last three seasons, the Steelers would have challenged for a 5th SB.

In some ways, Deebo Samuel looks like Sharpe or Taylor in his physical style of running through defenders yet his team can't seal the deal like the great Steelers and 49ers teams of the past.
