Dicky Moegle (although article states spelling as Maegle, most other sources state spelling as Moegle) former safety, halfback and fullback with the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys died on July 4, at the age of 86:

Re: 2021 Obituaries
According to Wikipedia, Moegle legally changed his name to Maegle in 1962 because people mispronounced his birth name.
The article doesn't say this, but I thought I read someplace that he changed it back later as an adult, but I can't confirm that.
The Dallas Cowboys Encyclopedia (Donovan, 1996) lists him as "Maegle" but the 2020 Dallas Cowboys Media guide lists him as "Moegle".

Re: 2021 Obituaries
Dick Moegle was most famous, while playing for Rice, for running down the sideline heading for a touchdown in the 1954 Cotton Bowl when an Alabama player came off the bench and tackled him. The referee picked up the ball, marched the rest of the way to the end zone and signaled a touchdown, officially a 95 yard run. The TD was awarded on the "palpably unfair rule."
Moegle had scored earlier in the quarter (the second) on a 79-yard run. In the third he had a 34 yard TD run. For the game Moegle gained 265 yards in 11 carries. Rice beat Alabama 28-6.
