I'm always fascinated by names of guys that have the same name as other guys. Like two mid 90s running backs named James Stewart, Mark Clayton/Mark Clayton, Curt/Kurt Warner.

I worked with a Jim Smith who was a member of the "Jim Smith Society" all of whose members were named Jim Smith.
I believe there are over 1800 members.

I worked with a Jim Smith who was a member of the "Jim Smith Society" all of whose members were named Jim Smith.
I believe there are over 1800 members.

We had a Jim Smith in our graduation class, and it didn't take long for our reunion committee to write him off as a lost cause. The White Pages probably had something like 22,000 listings for the name.

The humorist H. Allen Smith wrote a very funny book called People Named Smith, which is just what it sounds like. One of the actual names he discovered was "Sufficient Unto the DaY Is the Evil Thereof Smith."

The funny thing is, this particular "lost" Jim Smith is 3/4 Polack. His mother's maiden name was probably Kołodziejczyk or some such thing. In any case, only a small percentage of Jim Smiths belong to the Jim Smith Society.

I have an uncle who changed his long Polish name to Smith. That's the name he's buried under. Maybe he figured the guy who chiseled the inscription on his tombstone would charge by the letter.
