MIke Kruczek played from 1976-1980 for the Steelers and Redskins, then went to become the head coach at Central Florida from 1998-2003.

Forgive me if he is listed but you can add Ara Parseghian. Two years as player in the AAFC with Cleveland and 24 years as HC with Miami (Ohio), Northwestern and Notre Dame.

I don't know if it qualifies a as "longtime," but Otto Graham had two stints as head coach at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He was coach and athletic director there for 7 years before leaving to coach the Redskins. He returned to serve as athletic director for 8 more years and was head coach for 2 of those years. He was 44-32-1 in 9 years of coaching there.
