For some of the candidates it is like splitting hairs, they are difficult to differentiate. May as well pull names out in those instances.TanksAndSpartans wrote:I wasn't clear - I like the nomination process and the vetting by the committee. Please not give up on the HOVG. When I joined, I nominated George Kunz every year and many times he didn’t even reach the final 20, but he is finally in. As someone who was born in 1970, I have voted for players who saw as a child and growing up, yes (I have a picture with Everson Walls, who was one of my favorite players of the 80s and I voted him when he became eligible last year) but I also nominated and voted for Youngstrom, Emerson and Latone, amongst others pre-50s players.TanksAndSpartans wrote:I wasn't clear - I like the nomination process and the vetting by the committee. Agree. Continue to nominate guys who are deserving. When the same names continue to be on the ballot, it signifies there is a push for them to get in.Teo wrote:Please not give up on the HOVG. Latone is a finalist again this year. I feel like he is one of the top candidates. My guess is he will be elected.

I love your opinions TAS but Haynes I believe should be in the HOF, much less the HOVG ... we all know that his career took a dive going to Denver and competing with Gilchrest no less. I understand his fumbling issues but one of the most exciting players along with Timmy Brown ...

Thanks Brian. I appreciate that. Funny you mention Gilchrist, I just read on another board that he had as much talent as Jim Brown. I didn't comment though - I know the AFL historians are pretty passionate, so I pick my spots. I think we all have our favorite players, but I try to promote players based on resume. When the Centennial Class was first announced, the first player I wanted on the list was Glenn Presnell, but when I stepped back and looked at it, I actually came up with 10 I felt were more deserving.

Look, we all know that Jim Brown was a great player, especially with his speed and size. I also believe Gilchrist was great as well. More power than speed but a far superior blocker than Brown. I wont say he is better, though Cookie could kick and play linebacker as well but had Paul Brown kept him, he wouldnt have drafted Brown.
