Watching the Lions-Texans game. Houston scored a touchdown to blow open the game and CBS's Jim Nantz said that the score had "silenced the crowd".
There actually is no crowd.

Yeah, but how about all those cardboard cutouts in the end zones? (Those cutouts BTW had as much mobility as the Lions' secondary today.)
For the record, the greatest announcer gaffe (at least in my fair city of Detroit) was when Ernie Harwell described catcher Bill Freehan pounding his mitt while strenuously arguing a call with the home plate umpire. "Freehan," Ernie told his radio audience, "is beating his meat."

Reminds me of the time broadcaster Fred White announced that Twins pitcher Terry Felton "has relieved himself on the mound."RichardBak wrote: For the record, the greatest announcer gaffe (at least in my fair city of Detroit) was when Ernie Harwell described catcher Bill Freehan pounding his mitt while strenuously arguing a call with the home plate umpire. I don't watch a lot of baseball but did follow the SF Giants when they were winning World Series titles.
Our announcers (Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow) have very good chemistry and I was lucky enough to catch this gem...
Someone had been hit by a pitch and they were commenting on the play as it happened.
From the original camera angle it looked like the ball had struck the batter on the hip and Krukow said something like "That's painful... you don't have a lot of meat there...."
Just as the replay showed the play from another angle and it became clear the batter had been struck in "the cup" area.
Kuiper immediately replied "Speak for yourself, Mike."

A bit off-topic but worth it, I think.
Chris Schenkel was doing a golf tournament that had been occasionally interrupted because of rain showers. At some point, one of the golfers hit what looked like a really good shot but it skidded all the way across and off into a trip.
Schenkel's comment: "The golfers are having a hard time holding their balls on the green."
