Is Richard Sherman a HOFr?

Post by NWebster »

Assuming he either doesn't play again or doesn't play meaningfully again. If no, what would it take?

His Credentials

3 first-team All Pro

He has a shot, although on Pro Football Reference, his PFR HOF Monitor number is 78.83 (average is 106.44).

He probably needs a few more seasons. The recent CBs all have played longer. If he's done after this season I say no.

He did lead the league in interceptions once (2013 with 8) and in passes defended (2012 with 24).
He also has the single Super Bowl victory (to go with 2 losses) along with being a fundamental part of a "named" defense (the Legion of Boom).
I think he is borderline (or just below) but the way folks vote nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if the last two points (Championship and "Boom") put him over the top.

Assuming Charles Woodson and Darrelle Revis go in, Leroy Butler and Ronde Barber are more qualified than Richard Sherman at this point. All of those players also have a SB ring.

I believe so. Revis will get in but not first ballot. Had too mercenary an attitude but cant blame him for wanting to get paid. It worked for Deion Sanders.
