Who determines game day uniforms?

Post by vikingsfan1963 »

I know the home team determines the jersey color, but exactly whom with the home team makes that decision? The head coach? The team captains? The assistant to the equipment manager??

I believe that nowadays they figure all of that out during the offseason for every game. I imagine there are a lot of people involved in the decision, including folks at NFL headquarters. There's big money involved in merchandise sales and I don't think individual teams have the staff to handle everything. I'm sure there is a lot of "the NFL wants us to to this" types of conversations at the team level.

I think Ryan is correct. At least the head coach and higher ups make the decisions. Though the coach may garner input from the players as well.

Teams can also wear an alternate or throwback jersey for two regular season and one preseason game each season. So, you figure teams wear them once or twice in regular season. Example is the Thanksgiving games.
