Aqib Talib and other oddball announcers

Post by JWL »

Aqib Talib will be the color analyst for the Lions vs Football Team game this weekend. He is one of the last guys I would have ever expected to call a game since he has a potty mouth and was not an honorable or classy player.

Chad Pennington did a few games and showed potential but did not stick. Beth Mowins did the Jets-Lions game in 2018. Many people did not like her. I thought she was alright.

Who are some other announcers who called only a few games for whatever reason?

Marcus Allen did the Lions @ Buccaneers game on FOX in 1994.

Thought having an active player as an analyst was weird then. Since then, Matt Hasselbeck and Greg Olsen (a couple times) did the same. Announcing games while still an active player in the NFL is still odd, to me.

He did more than a few games.

The second MNF game has led to some interesting combinations. The aforementioned Beth Mowins with Rex Ryan (also was the infamous Sergio Dipp game), or Mike & Mike (with Mike Ditka).

Rush Limbaugh, who was a disaster waiting to happen, and it wasn't a very long wait.

I find it funny when a head coach spends his entire career railing against the media, and then when he retires he immediately becomes an announcer.

I thought Jay Cutler was an odd announcer choice, because he was lethargic and hated reporters. Still, I thought he was interesting as an announcer because he was different...more detached and not getting excited over minutia like Jon Gruden.

I respected them as players, but Emmitt Smith and Eric Dickerson simply could not speak in front of the camera. Dickerson's sideline reports were coming from a different planet.

Charlie Waters did Cowboys radio broadcasts in 1979 when he was injured. "Go....Touchdown."
