Having that many people (players, coaches, staff, etc) go out of country on relatively short notice probably would caused some issues.ChrisBabcock wrote:I wonder why Toronto wasn't an option.

Re: NFLgames postponed or moved due to weather
Here's some more oddities I've found on pro-football-reference...
A Dolphins "Home" game against the Patriots in 1969 in Tampa.

A Cardinals "home" game against the Eagles in 1959 at the Met. Maybe testing the waters of a possible move to the Twin Cities?

This one is truly weird. A Patriots "home" game against the Jets in 1968 in Birmingham, AL. Was the Patriots stadium situation that bad back then that they were having to find homes on a week by week basis?

Buffalo media have said Toronto was out due to having to get passports and work visas for the teams on short notice.Reaser wrote:Having that many people (players, coaches, staff, etc) go out of country on relatively short notice probably would caused some issues.ChrisBabcock wrote:I wonder why Toronto wasn't an option.
Another game that was moved was a Bills- Patriots matchup in October, 1961. There was the potential for a hurricane to hit Boston on the Friday night the game was scheduled for. The weather cleared up, and the condition s were much worse on the Sunday the game was played. Many Buffalo players had only brought one change of clothes, but they were stuck in their hotel all weekend.

Almost! I had just about forgotten that.
The Patriots were truly unwelcome temporary tenants almost every place they played. They were at Fenway in 1968 and moved on to either Harvard or Boston College the folllowing year.
This was an early season game. The Red Sox were out of the running so there was no potential MLB use in the offing.
I believe this was a half-hearted attempt at a bluff to move the team by demonstrating how welcome they would be elsewhere.
Don't forget: the game was versus the New York Jets who had a young Quarterback recently out of that little school in Tuscaloosa.

That fact crossed my mind when I first came across the box score for this game. Because of that I was expecting it to be a Jets home game and I was surprised it wasn't!Don't forget: the game was versus the New York Jets who had a young Quarterback recently out of that little school in Tuscaloosa.

Interesting. I never heard about that. Can anyone confirm or deny this? It wouldn't be surprising since the Orange Bowl was old-ish even then and Tampa Stadium would have been brand spankin new.Weren't the Dolphins considering a move to Tampa at some point?

I don't think Tampon Bay would've worked very well.oldecapecod 11 wrote:Detroit or Washington? Wow!!! That's like throwing away money.
There are more New York people in Florida than there are Floridians. Why not Tampon Bay or Jacksonville or even Miami where it would be just like going to Brooklyn or Long Island?
All the Florida teams are on the road. I bet they would come close to a sell-out.
