"Unbalanced" Teams
Re: "Unbalanced" Teams
1994 Broncos: Offense was sixth in overall yards and passing yards gained, but their D was 25th in points allowed and last in yards allowed.

That years Packers defense was surprising as wasn't the 2010 Packers D pretty good?Oszuscik wrote:2011 Packers. Top scoring offense, MVP at quarterback. Dead-last ranked defense.

They were! Dom Capers came aboard as defensive coordinator in 2009, and for those two seasons the defenses were pretty good. For some reason it fell apart in 2011, and they were always an at-best average defense after that. FS Nick Collins suffered a career-ending injury in Week 2 of 2011, but I don’t know if I’d pin all the struggles on that.lastcat3 wrote:That years Packers defense was surprising as wasn't the 2010 Packers D pretty good?Oszuscik wrote:2011 Packers. 1985 Chargers. Scored more points than any NFL team, even the Bears, yet stayed home with an 8-8 record thanks to one of the league's worst defenses.
1992 Seahawks. One of the most anemic offenses in the modern era week after week sabotaged the efforts of a playoff calibre defense and left them at 2-14.

That, and three defeats in the last 30 seconds of the game (@MIN, @DEN, @HOU).1985 Chargers. Scored more points than any NFL team, even the Bears, yet stayed home with an 8-8 record thanks to one of the league's worst defenses.
Re: "Unbalanced" Teams
1979 Saints: Had four Pro Bowlers on offense (Manning, Chuck Muncie, Wes Chandler, TE Henry Childs) with only one on D (S Tommy Myers). Sixth in points scored, 22nd in points allowed. Fourth in yards gained, 22nd in yards allowed. The loss to the Raiders in MNF (and possible drug usage) may have been what affected them in 1980 (along with the still-suspect D, which was last in the NFL in points allowed).

1970-71 Vikings went 23-5 but had a average offense but awesome defense. Can't win playoff games with Gary Cuozzo, Bill Lee as QBs.

1979 Bucs. Top defense; Scored two touchdowns or less in seven games.

Unless your opponent has Pat Haden as their QB!JKelly wrote:Can't win playoff games with Gary Cuozzo, Bill Lee as QBs.

2009 Jets. 9-7
Worst starting QB in the league. In 2009 they threw for something like 2500 yards as a team.
Best defense in football and a great running game. Pitiful trying to throw the ball. The offense however was functional because of that run game and line. If they had something resembling a competent QB...11-5 or maybe even 12-4
