It appears so, although Irsay was his usual schizo self, rejecting the idea in September 83 before then opening up talks in early 84:sheajets wrote:What's interesting is reading about the Colts possible relocation options on Wiki, it lists New York. The Jets had just left New York but they and the Giants were literally just around the corner.
Did New York really make a pitch for the Colts?

That would've been bizarre beyond belief. No Giants or Jets fans abandoned their team just because they moved a few miles down the road. I know it's New York and all...but THREE teams in such close proximity? The Colts would've had a hard time finding people who caredBD Sullivan wrote:It appears so, although Irsay was his usual schizo self, rejecting the idea in September 83 before then opening up talks in early 84:sheajets wrote:What's interesting is reading about the Colts possible relocation options on Wiki, it lists New York. Another thing I'd keep an eye on down the road...when the Jets rolled out their new uniforms a few months ago it was in NY and just extremely over the top NY-centric.
The entire event was a massive overture to NYC. Images of skylines, gotham black, all NY themed music. Which is odd because for years the Giants and Jets have (predictably) played up to both states so they can reap the benefits of calling themselves NY but practice/play in Jersey while keeping everyone happy.
This Jets event showed me that perhaps they're contemplating another try for a NY stadium down the road.

Well, Donald Trump hoped his USFL New Jersey Generals would have been accepted into the NFL in the 80's.sheajets wrote:That would've been bizarre beyond belief. Trump has for a long time wanted in that inner circle. The sane owners were never going to let him in. They already had to deal with Al Davis and Irsay

Who Art Modell had the gall to criticize for moving their teams. Trump was actually announced by one Cleveland TV station in November 1983 as the new owner of the (baseball) Indians, which obviously never materialized. In that case, given that team's attendance woes, he had previously offered the perfunctory "no plans to move the team" line.sheajets wrote:Trump has for a long time wanted in that inner circle.
