Rex Ryan as DC for Chiefs

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

It's looking like it's going to happen.

I'm one, personally, who thinks he should get another go as a HC, but KC can't make a better move! This is reminding me of when his dad went to Houston. Going into that '93 campaign, plenty of hype which - after that bad start - was lived up to until the 4th Q of that divisional round game. Rex Ryan and Andy Reed could be a deadly combination. Chiefs would have to be a sure-fire favorite going into 2019, especially if they can make some big acquisitions on that very side of the ball. And we all know that Rex (with Sanchez, mind you) had his moments vs Belichick. Hoodie and Brady, for sure, will not look forward to facing his defenses again - this time with Mahomes instead. What Rex will end up doing in KC ought to catapult him into another HC opportunity later on.

For all his buffoonish behavior (sometimes done tactically to change the narrative) he's always been a fairly solid coach. His defenses always overachieves. The entire team loves playing for him. They don't quit on him. They take on his personality...brash, cocky and fearless. But overaggressive to a fault defensively.

All he needs is an offensive coach he can truly defer to and let Rex build defense. The guy is a good defensive playcaller and utilizes his talent a heck of a lot more effectively than Bowles did. You give him any personnel and he will somehow find a way to stop the run. Him getting to 8-8 with the 2013 Jets was an enormous accomplishment. Our best receiver was Jeremy Kerley and the atrocious Geno Smith was our rookie QB

The problem is when Rex brings on his twin brother Rob...easily one of the worst DC I've ever seen.

I forget. Is Rex the one that looks like a caveman or is it Rob? Anyways would be a good move for the Chiefs. If the qb is able to sustain his success the Chiefs should be in a solid position to compete year in and year out.

^Well, it is not going to happen. Steve Spagnuolo got the job maybe a couple days after this thread was made.
