’93 VS ’18 Chiefs
The only two KC teams to make the AFCC since SBIV. 37-year-old but still ‘Joe Cool’ vs Mahomes in his break-out first year as a starter. I personally am going to go with the former. Not as much fire-power on offense as the quarter-century-later installment but definitely more balanced; a better overall defense.

It's an interesting question because while the '93 Chiefs may have been better the '18 Chiefs had a far better chance of getting a Super Bowl title than the '93 Chiefs did.
If a team as talented as the early '90's Bills was around today they would probably win four titles in a row as opposed to losing four titles in a row.

Offensively, today's Chiefs are waaaaaaay better. Defensively, they aren't. However, both teams had issues stopping the run in their respective AFC Title Game losses, so maybe 93 KC's D wasn't as great as we remember.
On average, I would take today's Chiefs. The 93 Chiefs weren't that talented, and they weren't even the best 90's Chief team (1997 and 90 were better).

Anybody else dig out the NFL Films doc, "The Longest Game Ever" after Sunday's game at Arrowhead?

The 1997 Chiefs team were the best Chiefs team between 1971 and 2018, in my opinion.

Despite the AFC Championship Game loss, I think the 2018 Chiefs were the greatest team in franchise history, with 1969 a close second. 1966 would be a distant third, followed by 1997.single wing wrote:What are your thoughts on the 66 and 69 Chiefs vs the 18 Chiefs ?

I don't know. That would indicate that teams of today are just as good (if not better) than teams from yesteryears (of course I am talking relative to their competition). Generally speaking these days the only thing that often separates 12-4 teams from an 8-8 team is a couple key injuries or they played a couple bad games (most teams are for the most part fairly comparable to eachother). Back in the day certain teams were so loaded that they could lose their starting qb for the season and still win their division with an impressive record. These days if a team loses their starting qb for the season that pretty much ruins the teams season.

The 71 Chiefs are the best, followed by 69 and 97. Those teams were more complete than today's Chiefs, who are way more defensively challenged than those teams were.

How about the '68 Chiefs? That 41-6 stinker to Raiders aside, not much lesser than the following year. I'd have to respectfully not consider this very year the best Chiefs team ever. Simply too much a liability on D. The team that actually won the Super Bowl, to me, is their best ever; '68 is #2, '97 at #3.
