The playsers occupying 2 positions or on both 1st/2nd team is annoying. A player should be voted using his primary position.

A few years ago, the "2nd team" did not have a quarterback.

That is not the tradition, though. Second-teams have been around since the beginning and can serve to reflect if there is a strong set of players at a position over time. Like Ozzie Newsome. His second-team picks were used to show he was a very good player, but was not as noticed as Winslow or Todd Christensen. All-Pro teams, even the first team is nothing more than a plurality vote, same with second-teams

Agree, the AP should specify what a guy is and the voters should be held to it. This year there are two middle linebackers and one outside linebacker. Last year there were two middle linebackers and one edge rushers among the LBers and that mean there were three edge rushers and no outside (off the ball) linebackers.

But, since the AP is one of three All-pro teams recognized by NFL/NFLPA CBA the others may smooth things out
