Last designation of a visiting team in the end zone art
Re: Last designation of a visiting team in the end zone art
I am near certain this has been captured on at least one trading card. John Riggins' 1972 card shows a photo from pre-game warmups at a 1971 game at Shea Stadium. The end zone seen in the background has orange and red stuff behind the goalpost. That was a game in which the Jets wore white at home vs the Chiefs. Not that that matters, but at first glance, one would see Riggins in a white jersey and assume the Jets were on the road.

I remember back in the 70's and 80's at Cowboys home games at Texas Stadium, they used to always have a goalpost pad with the name and colors of the visiting team in one of the end zones. So they must have kept 27 of them around somewhere.
That image earlier of the Vikings end zone in Dallas may have been from the 1977 NFC Title game?
Nope - goal post is on goal line - it must have been earlier.

First off - first pic shown - I wish Dallas would go back to those very blue away-unis as they had in that very '80 NFCC at the Vet (or maybe '81, not sure when exactly they changed) and the Saints going back to those exact unis from that time. That third pic ('73 NFCC) shown looks so sharp and the color pic-quality makes it look so up to date like it could have been taken yesterday! As for that second pic? Where was that? I see a red 'E' and a red 'A'. Were they playing at Eastern Washington before they painted the field red, lol?slats7 wrote:In 1967, the Cowboys and Saints saved one end zone for the opponents' colors:

They were playing the Eagles at the Cotton Bowl but used red instead of Philly green because the grass was green (I suppose).74_75_78_79_ wrote:slats7 wrote:IAs for that second pic? Where was that? Or the visiting team brought their own? That would make more sense.superbowlfanatic wrote:I remember back in the 70's and 80's at Cowboys home games at Texas Stadium, they used to always have a goalpost pad with the name and colors of the visiting team in one of the end zones.
