How do you explain to your wife that the team called the Redblacks is not the team
wearing red and black?
When I pointed this out to her she replied
why are they called the Redblacks - couldn't they make up their mind?
Good game though even if there's more snow in my backyard than in
the Frozen North.
I also thought it was unusual for one of the announcers to explain one of the nuances
of the game "to those viewers in the South" and I realized he was talking to me.
Grey Cup 2018
Re: Grey Cup 2018
That’s a very good point, John.
Calgary’s uniform is an embarrassment to the organizarion. Their colours, historically, were red and white with a red helmet which, thankfully, they wore yesterday. The black helmet they wear for road games is disgusting.

Re: Grey Cup 2018
I’ve wondered where they came up with the name RedBlacks. I have a feeling it is somehow linked to the semi-pro team in Watertown, NY the Watertown Red & Blacks. Watertown is only a little over a hundred miles away from Ottawa.
Re: Grey Cup 2018
Gotta love the CFL. They finally determined two teams in the same league with essentially the same name was just a little too confusing. Red & black were the colors of the old Ottawa Rough Riders so simply go with Redblacks?
Re: Grey Cup 2018
They 'had to' have a name starting with "R" because they were the Rough Riders then the next team was the Renegades. Ottawa sports teams are historically red and black so REDBLACKS -- all caps! as it was originally when they announced the name of the team. Name aside, I do like their logo. Though miss the giant "R" of the Rough Riders, circa when I was a kid.
I also don't like all the black the Stamps use in their uniforms. As a facemask and number outline it was fine but they added more and more over the years to where they went from Red and White to Red and White with some black outlines to Red and Black. BFBS.
Game was good. Slick field made things interesting. Jackson even slipped in the endzone after the first TD.
Usually root against Calgary but they've dominated the league the last few years and didn't have the championships to show for it (OT v. Ottawa, last year's collapse/fumble) so they 'needed' one before this group is done. Individually, Mitchell needed another one. Of course, was also happy for Chris Matthews.
Main takeaway from the season was Bighill getting more recognition and adding to his legacy. He played HS football in the same area as me and was awesome then -- though at a small school two classifications below what mine was and he started right after I graduated. One of my favorite players to watch. Plays football how it's meant to be played.

In the early 80s the Stampeders had also a touch of silver in their unis, who looked nice in the stripes on their sleeves.

Yes, I was going to mention the subtle silver trim that the Stamps wore during the Rick Johnson era.
