The 2-point conversion is a very silly rule, as far as I'm concerned

One silly rule that I'm glad they got rid of is the case of a receiver catching the ball in the air close to being out of bounds and his defender pushing him so that he lands out of bounds.... If the official determined that he WOULD HAVE landed in bounds without the push, it was ruled a catch. That was way too much of a judgement call for the officials. The defender should be rewarded for making a good play and getting the receiver to land out of bounds.

Bingo. That's a good one. If you're able to force that guy to land out of bounds more power to you.

I posted this in another thread. Happened in a recent Wash v Phil game. Offsetting penalties on the return of a punt the ball goes to where it was fielded.

Same thing on a Kickoff. A KO fielded at the 2 with a return out to the 25 and an illegal block at the 20, the ball goes half the distance to the 10. Same play but the coverage team also commits a penalty on the return. Offsetting, so the ball goes to where it was fielded, the 2 yard line.

"The Matt Blair Rule" was ridiculous to me. These are fantastic athletes, and they're not allowed to run and jump to block a kick? This was a crucial rules change on the path to making field goals and extra points the most boring play in sports. Don Shula, you're awesome, but this was stupid and I can't believe you got this rule passed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the rule specified something like players not on the line of scrimmage cannot leave their feet to block a kick, or something like that. I remember watching a game after this rule passed and some guy, I think on the Jets, did what amounted to a jumpingjack off the line of scrimmage and was penalized.

I hate the QB sliding rule. The intent is to protect the QB from taking big hits but it leaves them totally vulnerable to defenders who can't stop their momentum after committing to make the tackle. It's a terrible rule...the worst of several bad ones that are designed to protect our precious pivots.

A player who is not on the line may run forward and leap, but cannot cross the line of scrimmage or land on anyone. A player on the line may leap and cross the line, but since he's on the line, he is not running before jumping. If I'm not mistaken, this rule change was specifically requested by players.
