Early CFB info

Post by XanaduNow »

Does anyone know where I could find CFB roster info from the 1910s-1930s? Specifically uniform numbers but at this point I would take anything, even just a list of who was on the team. I'm striking out even in that department on a lot of them. I'm coming into a lot of game action photos from these periods (which I intend to share here) but I'd like to try to identify as many players as possible first. Thanks in advance for any help. I've struck out so far with PFR, sportref, and google image searches.

Yeah I just looked at the college football reference page and it gives season results from way back then but not anything in regards to full rosters. Quite frankly I'm surprised they don't have that as college football fans tend to be more passionate than pro football fans are overall.

This might be one of those situations which require searching the university libraries for team photos with names on them or old game programs or even student newspapers. That doesn’t help, I know, if you need info for a wide swath of teams.

Have you tried old football programs?
I have one for Cornell-Michigan from 11/6/15 that has uniform numbers
and rosters (last names only) for both teams.
If you're interested in the details send me an email
at jgrasso@frontiernet.net and I can provide them.

Thank you very much, John. I'm not sure if Cornell or Michigan are showcased in any of the material I have coming in but I will certainly take you up on your offer if they are. Much appreciated.

Not really rosters, but L.H. Baker's Football: Facts and Figures lists captains and "key players" for many college football teams from before 1946. No numbers, though.
