I have voted for McDole in the past for the HOVG. When I began to watch the NFl (at the end of his career) it striked to me how a defensive lineman could wear a double-bar facemask.

Hall of the Very Good seems about right for Ron McDole (5/2/allAFL). I wouldn’t rank him above folks like Earl Faison or Gene Brito (both 4/5/none) or Mark Gastineau (4/5/80s), and I doubt any of them will be getting in anytime soon. McDole was never a consensus 1st team all pro and four of the five seasons only one organization picked him:

1965: UPI
1966: UPI, AP
1967: NEA
1968: NEA
1969: NEA

Geez, seems like nearly every player’s getting a HoF cheering section these days.

In addition, The Dancing Bear has a unique place in NFL history.
He holds the record for interceptions by a defensive lineman at 12.

I've nominated McDole and voted for him to be in our Hall of (the) Very Good.
I think he belongs.

So in addition to 12 Ints (one returned for a TD) McDole also had Forty Seven (?!) passes defended?
Why was he so effective in pass defense from the D Line?

Was it a particular game plan or skill set?

And 18 blocked kicks, too?
Definitely need to be in the Hall of (the) Very Good!

Well, sometimes how the PDs were scored is sketchy but to block passes and pick passes you have to be near the LOS, not near the QB. Someone else is forcing the play and he's reacting. I supposed the blocked kicks is the same, good hand-eye coordination because as an inside rusher he's getting his blocked kicks on the LOS
