Too early to tell if this group will be special, middling, or horrific. Thought we could have a thread that discusses the progress of Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, and Jackson throughout their rookie year.
Mayfield thus far has been disappointing. For a first overall pick who's 23 with a full college career under his belt I think the Browns have to be underwhelmed that he can't so much as even compete with the average Tyrod Taylor. They're trying to downplay it but no doubt it's creeped into minds in Berea that they picked the wrong guy again.
Sam Darnold has wowed so far with the Jets (please God let this continue) the staff is amazed with how quickly he has been able to pick up the playbook and learn the offense at only 20-21 years of age. His accuracy, arm strength and quick decision making have been impressive. He's already exhibiting great leadership qualities, is a great communicator and an obsessively hard worker. With Darnold you always hear about how great his processing speed is.
Hearing good things about Josh Rosen as well in Cards. Patrick Peterson has mentioned he looks like a Vet already that's been at this a few years. Apparently the supposed red flags about his possible obnoxious personality have not surfaced yet
Josh Allen mania is sweeping Buffalo. From what I've heard it's been mixed regarding performance but they knew he was a project going into this. Though when he shows flashes as to what he can be it causes jaws to drop.
Haven't really followed Lamar Jackson with the Ravens but I never really saw him as an NFL QB. Kind of a gimmicky player. I guess we'll see. Always thought Polian was unfairly criticized for suggestion a position change. Lamar Jacksons career may end up mirroring that of Brad Smith or Terrelle Pryor. And there's nothing wrong with that

Not the first bit of criticism I've heard regarding Darnolds non traditional throwing motion. It's not quite the Philip Rivers shotput but it's different. Still when they actually timed the release, it's not slow at all. Quite average. And he actually improved his release quickness from 2016 to 2017.
