Very few players have gotten to decide when they will retire. The decision is made for them. I just meant that I don't think Blanca fits the thread, even as an almost. He would play another decade in the league after the matchup with Namath.

Blanda was done though by 48 years old. And there's absolutely no shame in that. An unreal accomplishment to last that long. He was no long an effective kicker. Didn't have the power left to kick anything over 40 yards it seemed. Not even a QB at that point either. He'd barely taken any snaps under center since 1971 or so and to me he was last a true quarterback in 1965/66
