unofficial single-season tackle record for DT
unofficial single-season tackle record for DT
Came across this unofficial statline for 1972 Houston Oilers defensive tackle Mike Tilleman...106 tackles, 14 sacks. I'm not sure how accurate those stats are, but Tilleman did quietly put up some monster years for bad teams, and the 1972 Oilers defense definitely was on the field a lot. Does anyone have an official/unofficial single-season tackles record for a DT/NT? What are some high totals that you've seen?

At least those stats are from the gamebooks (play by play) not the coaches film study that often have lots of "assists" added it that represent help pn a tackle but where there sometimes isn't contact. Fats Homes had 104 in 1974, many of them assists, but again, they were from play-by-plays. Larry Brooks had 99 in 1979. Jerry Sherk had years over and around 100, maybe 2-3 years or so like that, I think 105 may be the high. Wally Chambers had maybe a year or 2 over 100, t00.
Those are a few off the top of my head.
