Good one. Perhaps we should lower the bar a bit from ‘great’ to ‘good’, at least. I thought about Dick Jauron but, like Eric Hill, he experienced two .500 (7-7) seasons himself (in both ’74 & ’75). He’d go on to Cincy from ’78 thru ’80; and had he stayed just one more year...

Billy Ray Smith Jr. just missed out on the last good Coryell year, then retired right when Bobby Ross made the Chargers competitive. His rookie year was 1983, and he logged one game in 1992 and did not participate in the postseason. He was a very good player who excelled at both the ILB and OLB positions.
