Edgerson, Berchtold Confirm to Speak at PFRA Convention

Post by George Bozeka »

We are pleased to announce that two additional speakers have confirmed for the 2018 PFRA Convention which will be held in Buffalo during the weekend of July 12-15, 2018: Booker Edgerson and Scott Berchtold.

Booker Edgerson had a nine year NFL career playing defensive back with the Buffalo Bills (1962-1969) and Denver Broncos (1970). He was a member of the Bills AFL Championship teams in 1964 and 1965.

Booker had 23 interceptions during his stellar eight-year career in Buffalo, scoring on two, including one against Joe Namath. He also returned a fumble for the deciding score in a 1969 game against the Bengals played in blizzard conditions.

Edgerson was traded to Denver in 1970, but played only six games for the Broncos before a knee injury ended his career. Booker returned to Buffalo, where he has been heavily involved in the community and numerous charitable endeavors through the Bills Alumni. Those efforts won him recognition as the 1993 recipient of the Ralph C. Wilson Award by the Bills Monday Morning Quarterback Club. Booker was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and selected to the Bills Wall of Fame in 2010.

Scott Berchtold is currently a Special Assistant in the Buffalo Bills Front Office. He was the Bills Senior Vice President of Communications from 2011 to 2016 and prior to that he was Vice President of Communications from 1999 to 2011. He joined the Bills in 1989 as the Manager of Media Relations and was promoted to Director of Media Relations in 1991. Prior to coming to the Bills he served as the Assistant PR Director for the Green Bay Packers from 1985 to 1989. He has been in the NFL for 34 years.

Scott was actively involved with the Bills franchise throughout its historic Super Bowl run from 1990-93 as the lead media relations person for the team. He worked very closely with all the Bills Hall of Fame players from that era including Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, James Lofton and Andre Reed as well as Hall of Fame Coach Marv Levy.

He has served on 26 Super Bowl PR staffs in addition to the four Super Bowls with the Bills. He was selected by the league to serve as the Coordinator of the past nine Super Bowl PR staffs. He is highly regarded around the league.

A bit of PFRA trivia, Booker Edgerson was included in the original PFRA webpage. The PFRA banner at the top of the webpage featured a few player drawings by Bob Carroll, and one of the drawings was of Lance Alworth leaping to catch a pass...with Booker Edgerson in coverage. I don't have an image of the actual drawing, but this was the model...
