Yep, a quietly solid year for a rookie. Elliott broke the record for field goal distance in the SB by a rookie (41 yards, Mat Bahr, 1979) with a 42 yard kick, then later in the game kicked a 46 yard FG. Really impressive.

Gostkowsk has been one of the most affected kickers by the new extra point rule. His miss in the AFC Championship Game
in Denver three years ago was crucial, and he missed another in the Super Bowl last year. Then there is that lasting mystery
about why Belichick didn't let him attempt a 48-yard FG against the Giants in the first half of Super Bowl XLII on a 4th and
12 situaion no less. Rumor has it he had no confidence in his kicker that day after watching him in warm ups. That never
made sense to me since he came through in the clutch as a rookie the previous season with a game-winning FG in the big
upset over the favored Chargers. Despite his prolific point totals they do come with an asterisk.
