At the end of the epic Saints-Vikings game last night, various Viking players removed their helmets after the winning TD. Ordinarily this would incur a 15-yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty (Rule 12 Section 3 Article 1 h) on the enusing kickoff.
No flags appear to have been thrown on the play, which was a little odd considering Diggs not only removed, but threw his helmet. Various things were missed late in that game!
Had there been flags thrown, would there have been an untimed down? i.e. the Vikings would have had to kickoff.

To the best of my knowledge the answer is no. I guess if the penalty had been called, they would have moved back 15 yards on the PAT/2 point conversion.

That's kind of like the idea that the ground can't cause a fumble. A game can end on a defensive penalty if the penalty is declined.
