I only saw this once, as a highlight during the second game, but at first glance it looked like he was REALLY close to being over the line of scrimmage when he threw it. I guess they must've checked that on replay, right?

Brett Favre's first NFL completion was to himself -- for a 7-yard loss.

Yes, and the replay showed that he was not over the line.

Passers catching their own deflected passes happens a couple times each year.

The passer's entire body has to be beyond the line of scrimmage to be an illegal forward pass. On the replay, you could see his back foot was still on the computerized black line of scrimmage. It's a weird rule, but that's what it is. (that it's not the release point of the football, but rather the whole person)

A curious statline from another Viking QB, Tommy Kramer, for his 1979 season. He is credited with zero receptions for three yards. Is this a case of him completing a pass to himself?

No, that would mean that he completed a pass to someone who then lateraled the ball to Kramer.
