PFHoF eyes regular season game for NFL's 100th Anniversary

Post by Ronfitch »

From the article:

"CANTON TWP. David Baker has big plans for the NFL’s 100th birthday.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame president is trying to bring a regular-season NFL game to Canton’s Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 — exactly 100 years after the league was born inside one of the city’s car dealerships.

“There’s no guarantee (of it happening),” said Baker, who discussed the plan with league officials last Friday in New York, “but I think it will be a legitimate consideration.”

Baker said “in a perfect world,” the game would feature the only two remaining NFL teams: the Chicago Bears (who began as the Decatur Staleys before changing to the Chicago Staleys in 1921, then the Chicago Bears in 1922) against the Arizona Cardinals (who began as the Chicago Cardinals in 1920). The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919, but didn’t join the NFL until 1921."

You do know that there were black players in the league in 1920, right?

I'd prefer historically significant teams rather than the oldest - Bears/Packers would be fine. The first thing I think of when I think of the Packers is Lombardi. For the Cardinals, its the unearned '25 title.
