Joe Schaffer, former linebacker with the Buffalo Bills (1960) died on Monday September 25 at age 79

Tom Petty, who along with his band The Heartbreakers performed the halftime show at Super Bowl XLII, died at 66:

Y.A. Tittle and the 1961-63 Giants had a big part in the rising popularity of pro football. I saw them play on TV many times.

Y.A. was one of my favorite Giants. I'm glad he reached the age of 90.
It hurts me when one of my favorites dies who's younger than me.

Good snippet from a Tittle obit, talking about the 1964 game against the Steelers...

The play was a turning point: Pittsburgh went on to win, 27-24, Tittle played out the season hampered by the rib injuries, and the Giants would finish with only two wins. “After that I knew it was time to quit, especially when I saw our other quarterback, Gary Wood, was wanting to date my daughter,” Tittle told Richard Whittingham, the author of “Giants in Their Own Words” (1992).

Ben Hawkins, former Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns WR died on October 9 at age 73.

Besides his receiving ability, he was known for his unstrapped chinstrap.
