History of Pro Football in Ohio

Post by fgoodwin »

Has anyone read "The Sunday Game" by Keith McClellan (1998)? I've never seen it, but I understand it's about pro football in the early 1900s in Ohio.

It's a really good book. He specifically covers the time period 1915-1917. He identifies the best teams playing pro football during that time period, so it's not just Ohio, but Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, etc. as well.

I highly recommend the book also. The book does cover the period from 1915-17 for about 20 top teams in the Ohio-Indiana-New York-Illinois-Michigan-Pennsylvania-Wisconsin-Iowa area. also gives a history of how the team was formed and what happened to the team after 1917. Has team rosters, game results, bio's, etc. Lot of information.

To echo what's already been said, I recommend it as well.

When I first got it I opened it randomly to a back page and was excited about seeing rosters/positions for players on teams from 1915-1917. Looked through all those before I started reading from the beginning, ha.
