1979 Weekly TV Show
1979 Weekly TV Show
What was the weekly highlight show for the 1979 season? I am wanting to try and track down the episodes for a Paydirt boardgame replay I am hoping to start.

NFL Films had their weekly highlight program "This is the NFL", which was a 30-minute show narrated by Harry Kalas.JohnBowen wrote:What was the weekly highlight show for the 1979 season? I am wanting to try and track down the episodes for a Paydirt boardgame replay I am hoping to start.

Most of the 1979 episodes are available from NFL Films for their usual king's ransom, but weeks 5, 6, 8, 12 and 15 seem to be lost.

Does anyone remember a weekly 30 minute NFL Films program called Great Teams, Great Years hosted by Pat Summerall? I distinctly remember watching episodes in the summer & fall of 1979. They usually aired on Sunday afternoons or Sunday nights after the local 11:00pm news. Summerall would introduce old highlight films like the '66 Cowboys or the '68 Jets as well as past GOTW programs such as the '69 Saints @ Cardinals shootout. They even devoted an episode to Tom Matte's heroics in the '65 Playoff Bowl. It was great stuff ... classic NFL highlights syndicated on free tv. What a concept!

I recall seeing it in 1978, though the following year, they added "great games" to the package.Retro Rider wrote:Does anyone remember a weekly 30 minute NFL Films program called Great Teams, Great Years hosted by Pat Summerall?
