Still No Gamebooks?

Post by Throwin_Samoan »

Are we still struggling to actually get all the gamebooks that are supposedly in the members only section up and running? I know the links go to footballproject.com, which is no longer an active site, but the actual files exist somewhere, right? Those could be very valuable, seems a shame to not make that happen.

I wasn't aware of this footballproject site that was hosting these game books that is now shut down. How long has this site been shut down, and who dropped the ball on this? I am a little disappointed about this, as I worked with the Gamebooks Committee in the past, calling NFL teams to try to get gamebooks. As a PFRA member, I thought our annual dues and the other money coming in thru sales of the Packers Book etc. were helping in part to provide a place make these game books available to other PFRA members.

We have all of the gamebooks from football project and are working to get them all online on the PFRA website. Thank you for your patience and I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't know why we're farming out the holding of these documents. I don't know why profootballresearchers.com can't hold all these. We've already got the 2010 -2016 seasons, along with the 1983-97 Browse Seasons available at the PFRA site, Do they take up that much space? After all, they're nothing but PDF's. I know there are a lot of them but they shouldn't take up that much space. I just downloaded the entire 2016 season from the PFRA Members Only area and and they take up a total of 36.3 MB on my hard drive once I have downloaded all 269 of them.

As a mathematician of sorts I'm making some rough estimates here, but based on that rate of 134 KB per game (36291/269), and the 2016 game books have a lot of pages in them besides just play by play that we would not expect to get with older play by play, if we had every single regular and postseason game from 1933 to present (14200 regular season games and 533 postseason games for a total of 14733), that would run a total of 1987 MB or just under 2 GB, if my math is right. That is if every game book is as complete as the 2016 ones are and run about 20 pages, and most of the older ones run 6-7 pages at most. If we put all the game books we had on the site I doubt it would be a GB at most, and if memory serves, we have well over 9,000 game books. Just my opinion.
The entire collection of gamebooks is 20GB to date.

I stand corrected.

We are currently purchasing more storage space from our web host. Once that transaction is complete, we will upload the gamebooks and everything will be available for the membership.

The gamebooks should all be online now. If you discover any broken links, please let me know.

Thank you all for your patience.

So what were the results of calling the various teams? Do you they have them? If they do, how far back do they go? Are they not available to PFRA because 1)They're not scanned in? or 2)They don't want to make them available?
