Heisman winners in one game
Hey Guys!
Does anyone know the record for the most Heisman Trophy winners playing together or against each other in the same game? I know that Steve Owens and Pat Sullivan played in a 1972 game between Detroit and Atlanta, but does anyone know if there has ever been a pro game with three or more Heisman winners appearing (for one or both teams)?
Sincerely,
Joe Zagorski

Re: Heisman winners in one game
From 1977-79 Roger Staubach (Heisman 1963) and Tony Dorsett (1976) were both on the Cowboys so any team with a Heisman winner they played against would make 3 in one game.
So far I've found:
vs 49ers with O.J. Simpson in 79: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 090sfo.htm
vs Oilers with Earl Campbell in 79: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 220dal.htm

Jim Plunkett and Marcus Allen were teammates from 1981-86

Would Archie Griffin count as two Heisman Trophy winners in any game involving him?

Jim Plunkett and Marcus Allen were on the Raiders together as were Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson.
(So any team with a Heisman winner they played would make 3 in 1 game)
In 1988 the Raiders had Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson and Tim Brown on the roster.... that's 3 on one team.
They played the Oilers that year with Mike Rozier so that's 4 in one game but I can't tell from the box score if either Rozier or Jackson played int hat game: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/b ... 110oti.htm

I found four in the 1990 Lions Raiders game - Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen all scored touchdowns in the game:

Rodney Peete also scored a TD; he was a runner-up for the Heisman in 1989.

Andre Ware was on the sidelines for Detroit in that game.Rupert Patrick wrote:I found four in the 1990 Lions Raiders game - Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen all scored touchdowns in the game:

As a rookie, he was in a MNF home game against the Rams, who had 1973 winner John Cappelletti. Archie only ran for 10 yards, while Cappelletti led all rushers with 86.ChrisBabcock wrote:Would Archie Griffin count as two Heisman Trophy winners in any game involving him?
He faced off against Earl Campbell's Oilers in eight games between 1978-82.
In 1977, he faced the Chargers, with Johnny Rodgers catching one pass.
From 1980-82, he faced the Browns multiple times when they had Charles White.
In 1981, he had a return against the Saints, who had George Rogers.
In his last year (82), the Bengals played the Raiders and Marcus Allen, but he didn't see any action--or at least put up no numbers.

Doak Walker and Leon Hart were teammates with the Lions from 1950 through 1955. They played against the Bears and Johnny Lujack four times, twice each in 1950 and 1951.

I was looking at those 1950's Lions teams with Hart and Walker...but I found something odd/dumb...rhickok1109 wrote:Doak Walker and Leon Hart were teammates with the Lions from 1950 through 1955. They played against the Bears and Johnny Lujack four times, twice each in 1950 and 1951.

After Doak Walker left prior to the 1956 season, the Lions replaced him with Howard Cassady, who had won the Heisman at Ohio State. They still had Leon Hart, and they played the Colts twice in 1956. The Colts had Alan Ameche at FB, but Billy Vessels had come down from Canada in 1956 after the Colts had drafted him high in 1953. So you had four Heisman winners playing in those 1956 Colts/Lions games (Cassady, Hart, Ameche, Vessels), and the guy who had the most rushing yards in the second game was the guy who won the Heisman playing TE (Hart).
